Q&A with Daniel David Freeman
How would you describe your work?
I stretch the idea of collage by using fashion and illustration to make obscure imagery seem familiar.
Name five of your current influences.
Psychic TV, Laraaji, Wim Wenders, Joseph Beuys and Pez (the designer).
What do you like about working with textiles and clothing as part of your practise?
I like giving incidental imagery life so screen printing and embroidery are great ways of giving it permanence. Similarly, what better way to give an artwork life than to make it part of someone's day to day wardrobe?
What was the idea behind your Rough Version T?
I wanted to create a succinct expression of the transfer of knowledge, albeit in a fun way, so I drew an owl reading a book!
What else are you working on now?
I'm just about to start working on an exciting digital artwork commission and beginning to do some lecturing, which I'm super happy about.
