E-Vapor-8 at Site Sheffield

This beautiful gif work by Christian J Petersen was created to accompany E-Vapor-8 which is opening at Site Sheffield June 6! The exhibition runs until August 16.

Jeremy Deller is producing an edition which is being launched at the exhibition and Dave Maclean from Django Django is DJing at the opening party (be sure to sign up online to come if in Sheffield as limited space) and it's going to be a damn good show.

E-Vapor-8 is a group exhibition, curated by writer, editor and curator Francesca Gavin, looking at the influence and relationship between contemporary art and rave music from the early 1990s, presenting a hedonistic image of alternate realities. It traces a fascination with rave culture and happy hardcore by young British and American artists, many of who are absorbing and re-appropriating a cultural moment they were too young to participate in.

The exhibition, named after a 1992 single by the band Altern 8, touches on how the hedonism and cultural upheaval of rave has passed. Ideas around intellectual and physical freedom, rebellion and myth-making are all at play.
Participating artists are: Fatima Al Qadiri, Harry Burden, Rhys Coren, Petra Cortright, Jeremy Deller, Adham Faramawy, Alexandra Gorczynski, Marisa Olson, Hannah Perry, Christian J. Petersen, Travess Smalley, Lucy Stokton, and Daniel Swan.

There is also a study day around the topics of the exhibition July 19 and I'll be giving a tour of the exhibition the morning of June 7.
